چکیده

The QoS signalling across multiple domains is an open issue: in this paper we propose a QoS interdomain signalling solution for SIP-based multimedia sessions. Our solution refers to a signalling architecture proposed by ETSI in which the interdomain QoS signalling flows on the application layer along with the session signalling. In our solution we extend the precondition set attributes defined in the “Integration of Resource Management and Session Initiation Protocol (SIP)”, RFC 3312, to allow the exchange of information about resources required by multimedia sessions and local availability of resources in each domain, between all the domains along multimedia session paths. Moreover in this paper we provide a signalling solution that integrates interdomain signalling and SIP end-to-end session negotiation signalling.

Using virtual SIP links to enable QoS for signalling

The Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) will be used on a large scale as a session signalling protocol to provide legacy as well as new services. The 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) has decided to use the SIP protocol in the IP Multimedia Subsystem of future Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) networks. If the SIP protocol is used in carrier grade networks, Quality of Serv...

SIP Signalling Resources in 3GPP IP Multimedia Subsystems

The Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) will be used as the signalling protocol in the IP Multimedia (IM) Subsystem of the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) UMTS networks. Using the protocol on a large scale to provide equivalent telephony service requires Quality of Service (QoS) observations. This paper discusses SIP signalling resources and their impact on the QoS. The first part summa...

QoS Framework for SIP Signalling

The Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) is widely accepted as the IETF alternative the ITU-T H.323 teleconferencing protocol to enable call and media session management and control. It is also used in carrier grade environments, such as the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) of the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) in emerging Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) networks. This pa...

The Virtual Topology Service: A Mechanism for QoS-Enabled Interdomain Routing

In this paper we present the Virtual Topology Service (VTS), a new approach to provide interdomain services taking into account QoS and Traffic Engineering (TE) constraints. It is known that in these days the provisioning of end-to-end interdomain connections does not consider any type of QoS due to limitations of the BGP routing protocol. At the same time, many extensions have been proposed to...

Dynamic Resource Allocation in 3GPP SIP Overlay Networks

The Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) is the IETF alternative for session related signalling. To be able to guarantee Quality of Service (QoS) to customers in carrier grade networks it is required to ensure QoS for signalling. Resources provided by the multiservices transport network have...
